THE JOURNEY OF ONIDA

Jayne Younie as a young woman, had a great fascination in the Native American Indian culture and loved their way of life, living in harmony with nature.  Everyone who got to know Jayne knew, of her lifelong dream to live on a mountain and build a retreat, where people would come to experience a transformational healing, and leave the stresses of the world behind.

Despite many negative experiences both personally as well as financially throughout her life, Jayne always held this dream close to her heart.  Following an extremely bad marriage breakup, she moved to Sydney and a few years later she met her soulmate and remarried.  At the time he lived in Queensland.

Shortly after marrying they were looking to purchase a place to call home. The first time, in June 2019 Jayne saw the house with her husband at 282 Monaro Road, she just knew that this beautiful 30-year-old home was the “one” she had dreamed about for so very long.  So shortly after they bought the property, they relocated from Sydney.  It was like “coming home” she said and although the property and gardens were overgrown.  Everything about the two houses on the property, as well as the 9 acres, had been neglected badly and needed a lot of work. Both Jayne her and her husband got to work and were so excited at the endless possibilities. They set to work with renovating and landscaping.

Jayne decided to call the place “ONIDA” in Native American Indian, its meaning is “Long Awaited”.

She knew this house would turn into her lifelong dream of a retreat for many people’s “long awaited” transformational journey.

In one short year the house and gardens are beginning to take shape, revealing many hidden gardens and pathways.  The character of the 30-year-old place as Jayne stated “has been an endless source of surprise as we have revealed things about the place, even the real estate didn’t know about! Although it has “been blood, sweat and tears” a healing journey in itself, it has been deeply rewarding and we are so excited at every stage of the journey”

There are nine acres, eight of which are bushland. The features of “Onida” are a saltwater swimming pool, tennis court and gym.  There is also an outdoor firepit area and walking tracks to picnic area. Plenty of quiet places to sit and contemplate life.  Breathe in the pure mountain air, being 330 metres above sea level. and bath/drink the clear, pure water. Sit and watch the various wildlife, from kangaroos and wallabies, guinea fowl to various birds and reptile life.  Also one super friendly country cavoodle called Koda, meaning “Little Bear”

The ongoing plans for “Onida” are to build a sauna and transform the saltwater pool to a mineral pool. The continuing restoration of the property and gardens.

“Onida” is 1 hour south of Brisbane airport and 30 minutes north of Coolongatta Airport, Gold Coast.  Although being high in the hinterland, Mudgeeraba village is 10 minutes. Robina shopping centre is a 15 minute drive.  30 minutes to Surfers Paradise.  40 mins to Mount Tambourine. Beaches 20 minutes away. Numerous wineries, coffee shops and places of interest locally.
